Unlike standard Imperial design thinking, which holds that command ships should be the most powerful warships fielded, Moff Rulduk commissioned the Warlord to be less than fully effective in a head to head fight, in order to control the more aggressive urges of Imperial commanders, and force them to stand outside the main battle, and co-ordinate the action. In addition, Imperial commanders than would remain in the rear regardless of their firepower can do so without removing their force's most powerful weapon from the attack. While not an attack craft, the Warlord is more than capable of defending itself, especially against the starfighter runs that have proved so effective against standard model starfighters. In addition, the Warlord is quite agile for a ship of it's size, and capable of outrunning most craft of it's class. In addition, the Warlord has a very high end hyperdrive, capable of performance above it's listed parameters. In addition to these systems, the Warlord is equipped with a number of additional systems specifically tailored to it's function as a command ship. It's sensor array is as sophisticated as that of dedicated recon craft, allowing it to get a full picture of the situation instantaneously, without having to rely on other craft. The Warlord is equipped with a local wideband holoprojector of great power, and a large number of anti-jamming devices. Finally, the Warlord is capable of monitoring the exact status of the various internal systems of any number of imperial ships, as long as appropriate microbeam transmitters are placed in the ships to be monitored. The main boards of the Warlord typically display the status of all the ships in the fleet that the Warlord is coordinating, a three dimensional combat map, and all available data on hostile ships. There has been some interest in other Imperial Areas in the Warlord Class Star Destroyers, but as Ghtuk System Yards is straining just to produce the ships that Rulduk needs, export of the Warlords does not seem likely anytime in the near future.
