Capsule: The need for increased starfighter support of the Fleet gave
rise to this special variant of the common Strike Cruiser.
The Imperial Navy had already taken the mighty Star Carrier in duty but
it needed a smaller, cheaper vessel capable of being quickly produced in
large quantities.
The CVE Escort Carrier fulfilled all of that, but it was vulnerable in
Fleet actions so the new carrier design was to be capable of defending
itself in battle.
The result was the Strike Carrier produced by Loronar. It can carry four
squadrons of TIE's and packs quite a punch in its ship-mounted weapons,
however, this was made possible by cutting in on almost everything else,
and it resulted in a cramped vessel with short combat endurance.
Nevertheless, it is being procured in large numbers by the Imperial Navy
and can soon be found almost everywhere.
