Capsule: At the start of the Clone War a large building programme of
torpedo frigates was put in hand by the Republic.
The generally adopted design became known as the four-stacker class
but is in reality three different classes with only minor changes in
layout and equipment.


They were produced in tremendous numbers during the Clone War and they
wher even built for several years after the Clone Wars had ended.
Their existence hampered design improvements and it was not until they
were 10 to 15 years old that any new torpedo frigate designs were started.

When the Rebellion started, many had been scrapped or converted for
other tasks and the remaining were slated to be rebuilt as cheap escort
frigates or as fast troop transports.
However, many unmodified frigates of this class are still in duty all
over the galaxy.


The escort frigate modification includes the removal of all proton
torpedo launchers and the fitting of the following weapon system:
