The mon calamari mc80 star cruiser helped but in the early period, only a few of these ships were available. The mc80 took a long time to refit and was very expensive. The mc70 was comparitively cheaper and surprisingly effective in combat, so many of them were produced to serve as light cruisers. Although they have little chance against star destroyers and large ships, the mc70 is an effective vessel for reconaissance, defense, fleet support, and commerce raiding. Many branches of the alliance, such as intelligence used these vessels because mc80s were unavailable. Several of these vessels served as flagships for small fleets and are still in service in the outer rim and to support larger ships.
