Used as the standard assault transport of the Yaeger Imperium, the Firestorm is also used as a fast attack minelayer, and as the personal escape shuttle of high ranking Imperial navy personnel. The Firestorm has a cockpit set far to the rear of the craft, with a long section forward of the nose, and a pair of small wings at the rear. The four heavy ion engines are located in the rear, with two angled upward, and two angled downward, to produce an X-pattern which allows for quick turns in any direction, modeled partially on the Shuumar's Wulfen superfighter. The projectile launchers are located between the upper and lower engines, one on each side, and the main airlock is located in the center of the craft. The heavy laser cannons are mounted on the wings, and the ion cannons are grouped closely together at the ship's nose. The ship itself has long and sleek lines, giving the craft a somewhat ominous appearance, especially when coupled with the usual black paint of the Firestorm. The Firestorm was originally fitted with proton torpedo launchers, but when it was assigned to escape shuttle missions, the missile launchers were replaced with mine ejectors. This configuration proved very effective in avoiding pursuit, and when the chaos caused by Firestorms fleeing through the middle of the enemy fleets was observed, their next mission profile was created. As fast attack minelayers, the Firestorms fly into enemy formations, releasing mines as it avoids fire. This tactic has proved to be less than fully effective against the Yaeger, as their swirling tactics allow them to accept the breaking up of their formation with minimal difficulties. However, against other imperial factions, this tactic works wonders, turning close battles into routs. Still, the origional configuration is still used occassionaly, and other variations are often tried.
