To rectify those problems some of the best techs in the Alliance took an close look at the design and made some vital changes to the original Y-Wing. They increased the speed and maneuverability by improving the engines, replaced the original sensors with an improved version of the sensor system from the X-Wing, and finally installed two heavy laser cannons instead of the two original medium ones. The A6 variant of the Y-Wing is also known as the "Longprobe II" and is like its predecessor A4, modified for deep-space missions with longer in-flight time. It does also have an improved version of the A4's sensors. This variant was issued to front-line squadrons about one year after the Battle of Yavin.
