Once a primary supplier of Imperial low and medium technology (including the R2-I4 astromech droids), Grimnak found itself without incoming capital after the battle of Endor. The Royal Industries are the planets attempt to find a niche in the new markets. Unable to compete with companies with established New Republic connections for government contracts, the Royal Industries have begun aggressively cultivating independent contracts, as well as trying to sell goods to Imperial fragments, despite their location in the center of New Republic held space. The Basalard is the stock fighter of Grimnak, built both for export, and to replace the aging TIEs that had been used for planetary defense. The first starfighter that Grimnak has put into general circulation, the Basalard is a general purpose fighter, which has proved well adapted to a number of purposes. Modeled after the twin pod cloud cars, the Basalard can be piloted by two people at once, as well as having an internal station for a shields and sensor technician. In general, it has found wide acceptance among groups with large numbers of trained pilots, and limited amounts of capital.
